Basic Age Formula
Age = Current Date − Date of Birth

Total Days = (Current Date − Date of Birth) in days
Example: 26 years ≈ 26 × 365 + leap days = ~9,590 days

How to Calculate Age from Date of Birth

Age Calculation Formula and Date Subtraction Logic
Age is calculated using date subtraction. You take the target date and subtract the birth date, working backwards from days to months to years. The logic adjusts for months of different lengths (28, 29, 30, or 31 days).
Step 1: Calculate Years
Years = Current Year − Birth Year. If today's month/day is before the birth month/day, subtract 1 from the result.
Years = 2026 − 2000 = 26 (if birthday passed)
Step 2: Calculate Months
Months = Current Month − Birth Month. If the result is negative, add 12 and subtract 1 year from the years count.
Months = 4 − 1 = 3 months
Step 3: Calculate Days
Days = Current Day − Birth Day. If negative, borrow days from the previous month (using that month's actual day count).
Days = 10 − 1 = 9 days
How Age is Calculated Including Leap Years
A leap year occurs every 4 years (with exceptions for century years not divisible by 400). Leap years add an extra day — February 29 — to the calendar. This affects total day calculations but not the years/months/days age display.
